Quality Woodwind and Brass Instrument repairs and care in the heart of Birmingham
1/11

Deep in the depths of Hobgoblin Music Shop there is a workshop, where repairer Dot Brodie can be found in her element; surrounded by a vast array of tools, instruments in need of her attention and often, her two dogs.

After completing both Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies in Music Performance on the Bassoon at Birmingham Conservatoire, Dot attended the Foundation Woodwind Repair course at Llangunllo School under the direction of Gary Mills.  Dot has always had an interest in tinkering with things and understanding how they work, and this course provided her with the opportunity to combine her interests of all things woodwind and fixing things!

Soon, fellow wind players started asking her to carry out quick tweaks and fixes to their own and their pupils’ instruments and Dot realised that not only did she love fixing instruments, but she was also very good at it!  In 2006, Dot set up as a self-employed woodwind repairer and has never looked back.

Since then, Dot has added to her repairer’s repertoire, attending the Saxophone Repair, Advanced Woodwind and Foundation Brass Repair courses at Llangunllo School.  She also passed with Distinction, the Diploma in Woodwind Making and Repairing at Newark College.

Dot relishes a good repairing challenge and you will always be greeted with a smile and enthusiasm!

When she’s not working away in her workshop fixing other people’s instruments, Dot enjoys playing her own Bassoon and being taken for long walks by her two dogs, Brolly and Blossom.
